Current Research

The miniaturization of structures to the sub-millimeter scale, requires specific fabrication processes similar to the ones used in the integrated circuits technology. Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systesm (MEMS) are design, fabricated and tested in this area.
Involves the design, control and manipulation of fluids in the sub-millimeter scale. The systems deal with small volumes of fluids, its physics and effects on the micro domain and consume low energy.
The EMPIRe Lab. counts with state of the art equipment in MEMS technology and characterization. Therefore material’s properties and devices can be described in different physical areas of research such as: electrical and mechanical engineering and chemistry.
